This little piece of hi-tech wizardry will show you in an instant the exact distance from where you are to the pin, so you can select the correct club every time – it’s as close as you are going to get to having a caddy following you around! But what is the best golf laser rangefinder? There are many good models on the market, but one of the bestsellers is the Bushnell Tour V2.

Why Would I Need a Golf Laser Rangefinder?

Since golf is a game of many variables, a laser rangefinder takes the guesswork out of one part of the game – club selection and judging distance. Of course you get better naturally with practice at judging these things, but on new courses that you have never played before or on holes that mess with your perspective they can be incredibly handy. Sometimes you just want to concentrate on improving your swing for a day without having to concern yourself other aspects of the game – a golf laser rangefinder makes this possible.

The Bushnell Tour V2

The first thing that you notice about the Bushnell is how well it is made; the design and ergonomics of the device scream quality. The grey and black finish is pretty smart, and the grips are made of rubber which gives it a nice feel. It’s nice and small at just over 4 inches long, which is just the right size to carry around the golf course without it being a pain, and it is not too small that you might lose it.

Performance wise, this is a very good laser rangefinder, with a range of around 300 yards, so you can use it for most courses easily; the range is even further if the golf club has reflective flags.

While rangefinders always tend to have a problem with dense scenes where there are a lot of trees or similar behind the flag, the Tour V2 seems to have no issues locking onto the pin. The technology that makes this such as good product is called the “pinseeker” mode, and this is a glorified way of saying that it can pick out the flag a lot better than some rival rangefinders.

Probably the only thing that could be seen as a potential pitfall on this model is that the batteries it takes is an obscure model that gives 3V DC output. You can find this battery fairly easily through EBay or Amazon, but it does mean that you can’t buy batteries for it on the rare occasions that you are caught out on the course without the unit being recharged. The batteries do last for around 4 rounds of golf though, so it is unlikely that this would happen too often.

Golf Laser Rangefinder or Golf GPS

Golf GPS technology is very quickly advancing and the accuracy of the GPS devices is quickly matching rangefinder technology. While the convenience of a screen is useful, the accuracy is still not quite as good, the batteries don’t last as long, and they are a little bit bigger. Add to that how expensive a golf GPS can be when you have to pay for a yearly subscription and you can see how a rangefinder is better in a lot of circumstances.

Overall

While the Bushnell Tour V2 might not be the super expensive, cutting edge of golf laser rangefinder technology, it still outperforms almost all of its rivals when it comes to the combination of effectiveness, size, weight, and killer looks. And when you compare the price with other models, it is easy to see why it is still such as strong seller – it outperforms the competition but costs less.
